Değerli izleyicim, 84 fotoğraftan oluşan bu albümde, 2022 yıllında gezdiğim Adana İlter Uzel Tıp ve Diş Hekimliği Müzesi’ ni göreceksiniz. Görsellerde, Tıp ve Diş Hekimliği mesleğinin tarihsel gelişimini, anlatım metininde müze hakkında bilgi edineceksiniz.
Adana’nın Tepebağ semtinde bulunan İlter Uzel Tıp ve Diş Hekimliği Müzesi, 9 Kasım 2020’de ziyarete açılmış olup Türkiye’nin ilk özel tıp ve diş hekimliği müzesi olma özelliğine sahiptir. Müze, Çukurova Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi’nin kurucu dekanı Prof. Dr. İlter Uzel’in 1972 yılından itibaren topladığı koleksiyonların sergiye dönüştürülmesiyle hayata geçirilmiştir.
Müze, iki katlı ve on odalı tarihi bir konakta yer almaktadır. Bina, 2018 yılında restore edilerek müzeye dönüştürülmüştür. Bu sayede yalnızca tıbbi ve diş hekimliği tarihine ışık tutmakla kalmaz, aynı zamanda Adana’nın tarihi şehir dokusuyla da bütünleşen bir mekân haline gelmiştir.
Müzenin koleksiyonunda yaklaşık 8.000 eser bulunmaktadır. Bu eserler arasında eski tıp ve diş hekimliği aletleri, tıp tarihi kitapları, eczacılık ve farmakolojiye dair malzemeler, maketler ve resimler yer almaktadır. Sergilenen önemli eserler arasında Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’e ait üst çene kalıbının bir kopyası, Enver Paşa’ya ait azı dişi, 19. yüzyıldan kalma bir Ermeni dişçiye ait dişçi koltuğu ve Çanakkale cephesinden kalan bir ANZAC askerine ait diş dolgulu çene kalıntısı öne çıkmaktadır.
Müze tematik bölümler hâlinde düzenlenmiştir. Tıp tarihi, diş hekimliği aletleri, eczacılık tarihi ve Lokman Hekim ile tıbbi bitkiler gibi alanlara ayrılan bölümler, ziyaretçilere sağlık tarihinin farklı yönlerini keşfetme fırsatı sunar. Sergilenen objeler, bilgilendirici panolar ve kataloglarla desteklenerek hem görsel hem de eğitimsel bir deneyim sağlanır.
Ziyaretçilerin ilgisini çeken unsurlardan biri de silikon heykellerdir. Bu heykellerde Lokman Hekim, İbn-i Sina, Kosmas ve Damianos gibi tıp tarihinin önemli şahsiyetleri canlandırılmıştır. Ayrıca Prof. Dr. İlter Uzel’in Türkmen bir kızı tedavi ettiği sahneyi betimleyen özel bir çalışma da müzede yer almaktadır. Müze, koleksiyon ve arşiv düzeniyle 2021 yılında Tarihi Kentler Birliği tarafından ödüle layık görülmüştür.
Bugün İlter Uzel Tıp ve Diş Hekimliği Müzesi, yalnızca sağlık profesyonelleri ve öğrencileri için değil, halk için de değerli bir kaynaktır. Ziyaretçiler burada mesleğin tarihsel gelişimini görebilir, modern tıbbın ve diş hekimliğinin geldiği noktayı geçmişle karşılaştırabilir. Müze aynı zamanda Adana’nın kültürel turizm rotası içinde de yer almakta ve şehir merkezinde kolayca ulaşılabilir bir noktada bulunmaktadır.
Sonuç olarak, İlter Uzel Tıp ve Diş Hekimliği Müzesi, zengin koleksiyonu, eğitimsel işlevi ve tarihi yapısıyla Adana’nın kültürel mirasına katkıda bulunan önemli bir kurumdur. Türkiye’nin sağlık tarihi açısından özel bir yeri olan bu müze, ziyaretçilerine hem bilimsel hem de kültürel bir yolculuk sunmaktadır.

The Ilter Uzel Museum of Medicine and Dentistry, located in the Tepebağ district of Adana, opened its doors to visitors on November 9, 2020. It has the distinction of being the first private museum in Turkey dedicated to the history of medicine and dentistry. The museum was established with the collections gathered by Professor Dr. Ilter Uzel, the founding dean of Çukurova University Faculty of Dentistry, who began collecting items in 1972.
The museum is housed in a historical two-story mansion with ten rooms. The building was restored in 2018 and adapted for museum use. In this way, it not only sheds light on the history of medicine and dentistry but also blends harmoniously with the historical urban fabric of Adana.
The museum’s collection consists of about 8,000 items. Among them are old medical and dental instruments, historical medical books, materials related to pharmacy and pharmacology, models, and paintings. Some of the most remarkable objects include a copy of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s upper jaw mold, a molar tooth belonging to Enver Pasha, a 19th-century Armenian dentist’s chair, and a jawbone with dental fillings from an ANZAC soldier at the Gallipoli front.
The museum is organized into thematic sections. These sections cover medical history, dental instruments, pharmaceutical history, and figures such as Lokman Hekim with traditional medicinal plants. Each section provides visitors with the opportunity to explore different aspects of health history, supported by informative panels and catalogues that enhance both educational and visual experiences.
One of the most striking features is the collection of silicone statues. These depict famous figures in the history of medicine such as Lokman Hekim, Ibn Sina (Avicenna), Kosmas, and Damianos. Another unique display is a scene portraying Professor Ilter Uzel treating a Turkmen girl. With its collection and archival arrangement, the museum was honored with an award in 2021 by the Union of Historical Towns.
Today, the Ilter Uzel Museum of Medicine and Dentistry serves not only health professionals and students but also the general public as a valuable cultural resource. Visitors can observe the historical development of the profession and compare the advances of modern medicine and dentistry with practices of the past. The museum is also part of Adana’s cultural tourism route and is easily accessible in the city center.
